A night with two World Cup Final ARs

Referee Abroad hosted for an on-line webinar on assistant referees with Darren Cann and Leif Lindberg on March 24th.

Arguably two of the best Assistant Referees in history, they both officiated on a World Cup Final, among many other important games. This was probably the first time ever two ARs from two different World Cup finals attended an on-line talk with young up-and-coming referees from all around the world.

Darren Cann, who is still active in the Premier League, was Howard Webb’s AR on the 2010 World Cup final, as well as the 2010 UEFA Champions League final. Leif Lindberg was Pierluigi Collina’s AR on the 2002 World Cup final, as well as Anders Frisk’s AR on the 2000 Euro final. He is also the only official in football’s history to date to have refereed on both the World Cup and Euro finals. He is currently an Assistant Referee coach at UEFA level, as well as a coach on our very own Referee Academy.

The meeting was co-hosted with Norfolk County Referee Association in England, we would like to thank them and their chairman Jack Smith for their help and support in arranging this historic session.
